Nurturing Young Innovators: SMK Lake Bau’s Journey from Brightsparx to the Global Stage
Published: Tuesday, 10 February 2026 Last Modified: Tuesday, 10 February 2026The Sarawak Research and Development Council (SRDC) extends its warmest congratulations to the outstanding team from SMK Lake, Bau, for their remarkable achievement at the Pertandingan Inovasi Sains, Teknologi dan Kejuruteraan (PISTEK) Peringkat Kebangsaan 2026, and for being selected to represent Malaysia at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2026 in Phoenix, USA.
We are proud to have contributed to the students’ journey through the Brightsparx Program, which provided them access to the SRDC Common Shared Laboratory. In this facility, the team successfully conducted experiments on oil absorption capacity and oil-water selectivity, laying the foundation for their innovative project.
In addition, the SRDC Brightsparx Research Grant enabled the students to take a deeper and more comprehensive approach in developing their creative solution — combining coconut and chicken feathers to absorb oil. This work exemplifies the spirit of innovation, sustainability, and problem-solving that SRDC strives to nurture among Sarawak’s young talents.
SRDC looks forward to continuing its role in empowering students through research opportunities, capacity-building, and innovation grants. May this achievement inspire more young Sarawakians to pursue science, technology, and innovation for the betterment of our state and nation.
Congratulations once again — you have made Sarawak proud.
